About Biodiversity Management Committee
There is a provision for establishment of Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) at local self government level under Section 49 of Gram Panchayat Act, 1958. As per the Maharashtra Government's directive dated 2-5-2016, the implementation of Biological Diversity Act 2002 requires the formation of BMCs across all local self-government bodies in Maharashtra to ensure proper conservation, sustainable use, and equitable sharing of benefits arising from biological resources.

Local Body Identification
Identify all local self-government bodies under jurisdiction for BMC formation
Committee Constitution
Form BMC as per Section 49 of Gram Panchayat Act, 1958 with local representatives
Member Selection
Ensure representation from various stakeholder groups and community members
Registration
Register BMC with Maharashtra State Biodiversity Board for official recognition
Operational Activation
Begin functioning as per Biological Diversity Act, 2002 and prepare PBR
